Once Saved

Read Romans 6

I was once confronted about my belief of once saved always saved. “How can you be saved and continue to sin.” I knew the easy answer was, “I’m human.”

It still did not reconcile. It wasn’t until I studied Romans that the answer came. Romans 6:10 reads, ” For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.”

So does that mean we bought rental car insurance? Can we drive these mortal bodies into a brick wall of sin and never face any consequences?

Well, no. We as humans were made with a spirit of servitude. We will serve what we love. If you love drugs and alcohol, you will spend your time, money and energy trying to get more. Same for any addiction: smoking, video games, eating, shopping, they are all your slave holder if they are your passion.

Our God is a jealous god. He wants your attention and your devotion. Think how much better life would be if you could stop chasing after false idols enslaving you and you committed yourself to the servitude of God.

Once saved always saved? Sure, I still believe in it, but that’s like entering a sporting event to finish…I don’t want to just finish, I want to win.

“What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?” – Romans 6:15-16
