Read Ecclesiastes 5
What is wealth?
If you define wealth as amassing material possessions, you will never be satisfied with how much you have. You will constantly worry about what you have, and will always look at what others have with covetous eyes.
If you define wealth as an abundance of joy in The Lord our God, the you are wealthy indeed. You will not worry about what you have, and you will only desire God.
Material possessions are not inherently evil, the love of the possessions are. If you can have and enjoy them and still make God the center of your life, you are truly blessed.
If not, you are living under a curse. You need to refocus your life to make God your focus.
I lie somewhere in between, which is the worst position, for it is not either extreme. It is the reason I start the day with these devotionals rather than video games or reading for pleasure.
Where are you wealthy?
“Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.” – Ecclesiastes 5:19-20
