What is the meaning of life? Why do we exist?
Paul explains just that in the middle of one of my favorite passages.
In his letter to Corinth, he is explaining that it is permissible to eat meat from animals sacrificed to idols without sinning. He goes on to say that if it is done in the temple in view of others who would stumble if they saw someone eating that meat, it would be better to not eat meat at all.
About the middle of the chapter, there is a verse I have often glossed over. It is the software I use now that highlighted it for me.
“yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.” – 1 Corinthians 8:6
We know there is one God, but it is from whom all things are and for whom we exist. We exist for God. We were created by God.
We know that there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, but it is through whom all things are and through whom we exist. We continue to exist because of Jesus and we were created through Jesus.
The meaning of life and our existence is to serve God and share Jesus Christ. Will you be moved to fulfill your purpose?
