I used to think God would abandon me in times when I’d got myself in the most trouble. Of course I’d never thought I was to blame, but I usually was.
When I look back on those thoughts, I see how immature I was in Christ. I’m still a far cry from where I need to be. I see now that God was always with me, guiding me, I was too stubborn to listen.
God never changes. His promise to his people never changes. He never told Israel to leave the promised land, but they did. They found themselves slaves to Egypt. They grumbled at their plight, calling to God to fulfill the covenant he had made to bring them to the promised land again. In Exodus, God reveals His true nature concerning his promises.
Exodus 6:7-8 reads: “I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.”
It did not matter that the Israelites had disobeyed his commands, they would continue to do so for years before this covenant had been fulfilled. God stayed true to His perfect covenant and revealed that though His people can change, He cannot.
Have you broken any promises you made to God? Have you ever realized that He returned to you even after your disobedience? Return to Him in prayer and allow His true nature to work in your life!
