Read Psalms 107
It is very difficult to thank someone who gives us hardships. It is extremely difficult when those hardships begin to increase, it is impossible once we are overwhelmed. It isn’t until we are broken and out of choices that we cry out for help to end the suffering.
We learn through struggle. If we as humans just automatically obeyed God’s every command, we’d be little more that robots. We don’t have artificial intelligence though, we have genuine intelligence. It came from God himself.
When we turn from God’s will in our life, we ask for hardships. He will not leave you or forsake you. What He will do is place so many obstacles between you and your goals that you turn back toward His goal.
I find myself in this situation less and less now, but when I try to change God’s plans for my life, I’m suddenly out of money, or develop health problems. I might be humbled by something my wife or daughter says. God constantly communicates with us, but sometimes we plug our ears and cover our eyes.
I resolve to listen for God’s voice and look for his beacon. For if His love endures forever, my obedience must mirror that unfailing love.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” – Psalms 107:1
