“He (Jesus) went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom.” – Luke 4:16

If we are to be like Christ (Christian), then we must do as he did…

Jesus went to church (synagogue) on the Sabbath. The most important part of the passage is not that Jesus went to church, however. Look at the end, after the comma…

“As was his custom.” These four words tell us that Jesus went every Sabbath, it was his custom.

He didn’t just go on Easter and Christmas (mainly because these two holidays didn’t exist until after his death). It didn’t say “as he sometimes did,” or “as he often did”. It says “as was his custom.”

We should be like Christ and make church our custom. It should be the fabric of our life, the cornerstone of our week. Find a church and begin visiting this week, make it your custom.
