Waiting for God

Read Psalms 37

Many times in school and in life, I have watched bullies, criminals, and negative people succeed while I struggle.

I used to think God was punishing me for something if these people were succeeding. I have since through counseling and fellowship with other believers, come to realize that your deeds do not equal earthly rewards.

I couldn’t wait for God’s justice. I worked and toiled at several jobs trying to consult on the side and devote my whole self to a full time job. I never could get ahead. It was fitting I found this verse today:

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.” – Psalms 37:7

It wasn’t that God punished me or rewarded them. I lacked patience. Like a child chasing after an ice cream truck headed their direction, I was pursuing rewards from God without waiting on God to deliver them to me.

Things happen in God’s time, not my time. In my ego-centric universe, I want it and I want it now. In God’s universe, it’s on His terms and in His time.

Have you developed this kind of patience? What are you pursuing that may be better left for God to deliver?

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.” – Psalms 37:7
